Diversity

October 12 th, Day of American Cultural Diversity
The INADI, National Institute against Discrimination, Racism and Xenophobia in Argentina suggested a new name for October 12th, to be renamed ‘Day of the American Cultural Diversity”’ replacing the “Race Day”.
The objective of this initiative was to value ethnic and cultural identities, promoting historical reflection, and was organized by members of indigenous communities, historians and non-governmental organizations in the country.
Everyone thought that the name “Race Day” was inadequate, because any idea or doctrine of superiority based on racial differentiation is scientifically false and morally condemnable.
The use of the term ‘race’, prevalent in the 18th and 19th centuries, was abandoned due to its lack of scientific support and was used by political and cultural reasons to serve as a supposed justification or excuse for genocide and acts of discrimination.

Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was born on September 13 1916 in Llandaff, Wales, to Norwegian parents.

He began his career as a writer in the USA, with his first paid work - an article focusing on his experiences as an RAF pilot posted to Libya at the beginning of World War Two - being published in 1942.

He later returned to the UK with his family and settled in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, where he went on to write many of his famous and much-loved children's books.

Roald Dahl died in November 1990, aged 74. His classic stories - including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches, Danny the Champion of the World, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr Fox and many more - continue to delight and entertain fans across the world.

Here Comes The Sun
by The Beatles

Let's sing!

Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right

Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right
It's all right

Silent movies are full of sound

Let's share with children great scenes of Charlie Chaplin's movie The Kid!

Scene #1: You know what streets we work today

Scene #2: Pancakes!

Scene #3: The fight

Scene #4: The doctor and the police

What do you think about these scenes?
What values are shown here?

Let's discuss with our students concepts such as love, friendship, sharing,  charity, poverty, children's rights...

Where do the man and the kid live?

Why does a woman help them? How? What does she give to most children? Does it make a change?
 Why?/Why not?

Why is charity for some people a duty and for others a joy?

Are we really helping someone doing charity? Why?/Why not? Is it enough?

Why do the children start fighting?

Is the kid happy living with his father? Why?

Engage Me!

What do we do to engage students?
